In the 1950s, in a hamlet with no school or library, a girl befriends a man who lives locked up in his house. He lends her books and she tells him what the world outside is like: the birds, the plants, the ores and the stream that gives the town its name. Thus, the girl falls in love with the stories and the man gradually loses his fear.
